Cosmetic Formulation
In 2005 High Force Research Ltd started work with Dr R J W Hefford of Independent Cosmetic Advice Ltd to establish a cosmetic research and development facility.
Since that time we have worked with a wide range of customers to develop and test a wide range of cosmetic raw materials, formulations and applications.
Our cosmetic development chemists work in a dedicated high quality cosmetic laboratory which contains all the usual equipment expected of such a facility and also has access to the wide range of techniques within the HFR synthetic laboratory.
The services that we can provide include:
- The development of cosmetic formulations especially
- Hair colouring products – oxidative and direct colouring products
- Hair care products e.g. shampoos, conditioners and styling products
- Shower gels and body washes
- Hair straightening products
- Creation of information necessary for Product Information Packages
- The colouring and colour measurement of hair tresses
- Analysis of hair dyes in hair colouring products
- Analysis of products containing hydrogen peroxide
- The determination of the resistance of coloured hair to washing
- Stability testing of cosmetic products taken to at least 12 weeks and sometimes 52 weeks
- Curl drop out testing under controlled humidity conditions
- Manufacture of product for panel/consumer testing
- FTIR (for assessment of hair damage)
The cosmetic facilities that we have include:
- Laboratory scale manufacture from small scale up to 10kgs
- Viscosity (Brookfield) measurement
- pH measurement
- Titration e.g. measurement of alkalinity
- Colour measurement (Minolta)
- Overhead mixing
- Large and small Silverson mixers
- Fridges, freezer and ovens for product storage at various temperatures
- Penetrometer
- Humidity cabinet
- Small scale tube filling (particularly oxidative hair colour)
